What we are holding can harm us. Letting go heals us. This process does not require perfect spiritual development, it only requires more kindness for ourselves and more willingness to shed emotions that do not serve us. Being hard on yourself does not make you more creative, it makes you more afraid. Fear does not expand, it constricts. That is why we must constantly choose love and kindness when we encounter harmful things we are holding. Only in letting harmful things release can we gain power over the things in our lives we want to create. There is power in letting go and joy in the freedom we gain from that release.
