Our Power

Sometimes the world rears up and tells us that its business is the only business that matters. When we believe this, we give over our power to a false belief. We may even believe that one decision, one moment, has all the power over our lives, leaving us to believe that we have none. Certainly many of the decisions made in the world impact us, for better or for worse, but they do not take away our power or our responsibility to create our own lives.

It is easy to become a victim of unconscious idolatry. Without even realizing it, we decide that the decisions of the world are godlike. The world, like the ocean, is full of ebbs and flows and the cycles of nature. Nothing is ever completely what it seems to be. What we can know about with certainty is our own hearts-what we love, who we love and how we use our energy to support those things. If we can focus on ourselves in a positive and caring way, we can be sure that our energy is being used in the best possible way. Our power lies, not in controlling, but in loving and supporting what is good and true and full of light.
