Walking the Rocky Road

The road of your life will always have easier and more difficult sections. You are living in a time when the rocks in the road are more prevalent than the smoothness. These rocky times are also great teachers and in that knowledge we can begin to address some of the underlying issues which are not nearly so visible when the road is smooth.

The first issue is the issue of fear. Understanding that there are many categories of fear, there is one consistent fear response. That response is the closing of energy flow and the narrowing of focus. Fear is also the creator of inaccurate equations. One such equation is that situations changing in the way that you want them to equals safety and happiness. This equation is not only unbalanced, but dangerous. If you are choosing to wait until your situational standard is met before you open to safety and happiness, you may be limiting your own life experience. This does not meant that you do not experience upset or fear, but it does mean that you do not want to make that condition more powerful or important than you are.

The one constant in life is that it is always changing. Life, as we have said before, is everything. You are a being with an eternal spirit. Whatever you experience is changing. Your spirit is eternal. You will walk through experiences that come and go and you will continue. Your choice is how you experience life. The determiners of how you experience life are what you believe and how you focus your energy.

Our minds are very drawn to absolutes. This experience is absolutely bad and another experience is absolutely good. A great energy skill is allowing ourselves to recognize the mixtures of energies we experience in any given situation. This leaves us free to truly understand ourselves and our reactions to things in the world around us. It also frees us from the state of energy which might attract negative situations if we decide that a situation is completely negative. Here is an opportunity to choose your focus. If you can find a positive thing on which to turn your attention in a difficult situation, you are allowing your own energy to expand and attract whatever is positive around you. This is the reason that so many good philosophies emphasize the importance of gratitude. It is a conscious turning of your focus to what is positive, allowing you to broaden your positive focus and re-enter the flow of life.

Another issue is the issue of perfectionistic judgment. What have I done to create this rocky road on which I am walking? It is, of course, good to take responsibility for your part in any creation, but it is also good to not that you do not create all circumstances in your life. If you have created something less than desirable in your life, then, by all means, do your best to change it. If you are confronting something you did not create, then make sure your suffering is not being exacerbated by perfectionistic judgments and expectations. In either case, entering a state of persona punishment will hamper your spiritual growth. Love, the greatest gift, should first be given to yourself.

Long after this time has come and gone, you and your spirit will remain. Nurture yourself and tend to your healing, knowing that these things honor you and the love that created you, now and always.
