Making a Better Life

Most of us long for a better life, but many times we don’t stop to examine what we believe i takes to get that life. Without that examination, it isn’t likely that we will be able to take the necessary steps to make a better life. Let’s say that you believe that your life would be better if you made more money. A good way to examine that belief is to ask yourself how your life would be better. Perhaps you might be saying to yourself, “My life would be better if I had a better car.” In truth, your transportation would be better if you had a better car, but it is unlikely that your whole life would be better. We seem to have a great need to ascribe happiness to things outside of ourselves, and sometimes, things which are beyond our control.

In a creating sense, it is better to say, “I am going to focus on ways to get a better car because I want better transportation.” Now you are empowered. Begin to look for all the information you can gather about good cars. Talk to friends, look up information on the web and keep an open ear for anything around you that might help you find a good car. This is a much better way to get a good car, because you have entered a creating process.

When the things you have decided will make a better life for you are ungrounded or dependent on things outside of your own focus and effort, you will probably feel that you cannot make a better life. That feeling, then, will rule your life and your belief systems. Your belief systems are what attract or repel what comes to you or does not come to you.

No matter what you want to create, know that your involvement in that creation is necessary for that creation to come to life. There are some things which definitely make a better life. Most of these things involve your relationship with yourself and your beliefs about yourself. Check for thoughts about yourself which are unloving or unforgiving and begin to release them. Focus on thoughts which support your worth and your abilities. Remember, we cannot control thoughts which come to us, but we can make decisions about whether we focus on those thoughts or release those thoughts. Healthy loving thoughts are a choice. It may take some time to develop those thoughts, but it is well worth the effort. After all, we cannot expect something outside of us to make to support a better life if we don’t believe we deserve one.
