Change visits us in many forms. If you live in the eastern part of the country, it is visiting you in the form of weather. This kind of change forces us to consider what is important and to make provisions to care for ourselves. The basic necessities must be brought in and stored. We must consider how to power what we need when the power goes out. We check in with friends to make sure all is well and then we wait for the storm.
We are living in tumultuous times. These are the times when it is most important to be conscious about your focus. Your focus creates and your focus protects. It is easy to give all of our attention to what we do not have, but it is not a good use of attention. When we use our focus to be grateful for the basic necessities, for the power we have and for the friends and family we love, we will find ourselves safe in the storm.
This kind of focus makes us full. When we are full, we are able to see more clearly the best way to move in our lives. Move with your focus on loving kindness, first to yourself and then to the world around you. This creates the light that defeats the storm.
