Releasing the Need to Control

When you are the creator of a situation, you can assume responsibility for that situation working well.  In the simplest form, if you choose to take a list to the grocery store, you are assuming responsibility for that list to be filled.  If you get all the items on the list, the situation is satisfied.  If you forget items on the list, you return to the store.  That is responsibility in its simple form.  You have assumed appropriate control.

If the store is out of an item you want, you must release control.  You can shop for it at another store, but the original store is not a source for the thing you need.  It is easier to understand this principle in relation to a shopping expedition and more difficult when you are dealing with people and other life situations.  There is a great power in knowing when to let go.  The need to control situations which you did not create can be dangerous and exhausting.  The ability to release control is both wise and powerful. As you become more discerning and proficient at knowing when to release, you also become more free.
